Introducing Vicki
Vicki’s professional and creative writings have been included in a variety of publications including Advancing Philanthropy, Cathexis Press, Projected Letters, Wraparound South, and The Walls Between Us: Essays in Search of Truth, a Juncture publication. She was a regular contributor to the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop blog for many years. Vicki is a routine scribbler and enjoys collecting the scribbles of others. Like all writers, she has a dusty novel shoved in a drawer at home that someday she hopes to publish. As a child Vicki adored Madeleine L’Engle’s writing, and she is forever grateful to her husband for allowing her the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Madeleine’s beloved Vicky Austin. She lives with her family, two incredibly feisty shichons, several very OCD chipmunks and many wild and feathered friends.
There wasn’t one shining moment in which the stars aligned and I knew I wanted to be a writer. However, when I was maybe seven or eight years old, my grandfather gave me an old Olympia Manual Typewriter complete with a teal carrying case and plenty of ribbon. I promptly emptied the entire contents of my bedroom closet and created my very own office. Squishing into the tiny space and pounding away on the keys with a new blank sheet of paper I could create any world I wanted. I loved the thunk of the carriage as it returned for a brand new thought. My words had power when they were recorded in stark black letters on a bright white surface.
